Name Pronunciation for Commencement
Please tell us how you would like your name to be pronounced at Commencement. Your name will be called before you cross the stage to receive your diploma and we want you and your family and friends to recognize it. The Dean’s will be reading the names off at the commencement rehearsal on May 29th at 11am in Uris Auditorium for your approval.

Please write out your FULL NAME phonetically. Please indicate stress with capital letters and divide the name by syllable. For example: Elaine Martin would be EE-layn MART-in.
Day of Commencement:
You should plan to arrive at Carnegie Hall no later than 10:15 am. Please allow yourself ample time to travel to Carnegie Hall as it is in a congested area. Students should enter via the Stage Door, 161 West 56th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenue. If you are not on the procession line by 11:30 am, you will not be allowed to march. There will be no place in the Orchestra Room to leave personal items. Please leave your jackets/sweaters, purses, flowers, cameras - any other personal items with your guests.

You will be allowed to take pictures after the ceremony, but you must return the cap, gown, and hood inside Carnegie Hall. After the ceremony ends, you will have 30 minutes to take pictures with your guests and return all academic regalia in the classroom where you lined up. Once you receive a ticket you will be able to receive your diploma at the Hilton, where the reception will be held. If you do not return your regalia you will not receive your diploma.
Pictures will be taken when you receive your diploma from LifeTouch to purchase. Please see pictures from last years commencement:
Diplomas for August and January graduates of the Graduate School have already been distributed; if you did not receive your diploma, please contact the Office of the Registrar. Diplomas for May graduates will be distributed at the Hilton reception that follows commencement. All graduates will receive empty envelopes on stage at Carnegie Hall.
Students who have borrowed federal loan funds must complete Exit Counseling online at https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action. WCMC loan Exit Counseling must be completed online at https://borrower.ecsi.net/. If you would like to make an appointment for loan counseling with Alicia Stewart, Director of Financial Aid, or Becky Hertig, Assistant Director of Financial Aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office 212-746-1065.

Family and guests are welcome to the reception. Tickets are not needed for the reception. Finger food, cookies, and soft drinks will be provided at the reception.

As a graduate, how many invitations and tickets will I receive? Each student will receive 6 tickets.
How long is the ceremony?
The length of the ceremony can vary, but it is generally about two and a half (2.0) hours in length.
When will I get my diploma?
As diplomas are not distributed during Commencement, they may be picked up at the Commencement Reception at the Hilton New York. For additional information, please reach out to the Registrar Office.

Is there reserved seating?
There is no reserved seating.
Are there any other events happening in addition to the Commencement ceremony?
Yes, the Commencement Reception will be held after Commencement at The New York Hilton at 1335 Avenue of Americas starting at 2:15 pm.
Does my child need a ticket?
Yes, children can attend the ceremony and require a ticket, regardless of age.
If I am graduating and participation in the ceremony, do I have to wear a cap and gown?
Yes, all participating students and faculty must be robed.
As a graduate, do I go up on stage during the ceremony?
Yes, each candidate will go up on stage after their name is announced to meet with the President and Dean.
If I am graduating and participating in the ceremony, will I need a ticket? No. You will enter at the Stage Door Entrance (161 West 56th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenue). Security personnel will have a list of names at the stage door and will ask you to identify yourself.
Where does faculty pick up their regalia? You will be picking up your regalia at Carnegie Hall the morning of Commencement in The Citigroup Café.
