Registrar

In alignment with the shared values of Weill Cornell Medical College, the Office of the Registrar seeks to provide excellent customer service to all of our stakeholders, including: faculty, colleagues from other departments, internal and external constituencies, collaboratively with Cornell University in Ithaca, WCMC-Q, other medical institutions, and most importantly, our students.

The Office of the Registrar is charged with maintaining the permanent record of the student, including archived data and documents, and providing credentialing information, including licensing, verification of medical education, diplomas, and transcripts or dean’s letters. The Office monitors the academic progress of each student from admission through graduation, retains demographic/biographical information, changes in name, initiates all registration processes, and verifies enrollment, while ensuring that all entities are compliant with FERPA regulations and institutional policies.

Changing your student status

You must notify WCGS and the Registrar's Office if you wish to withdraw, take a leave of absence, or otherwise cease to be registered.

Licensing Information

The Office of the Registrar is happy to assist graduates with licensure applications. Specific inquiries regarding licensure should be referred to the state in which you are applying.

You may forward your licensure application to this office for verification of medical education by completing the Credentialing Request Form, additional documents maybe uploaded to the request form. "Official" transcripts are only available has hard copies and can be sent directly to graduates, or formerly enrolled students only if the final destination address is provided. The envelope, once received by the graduate or former student, may not be opened.  There is an average of a 7-10 business day turnaround time for all requests.

If the request also requires a certified copy of your diploma, you must provide us with a photocopy of your diploma. We will certify and forward it to the licensing board with your other documentation. If the application requires a photograph, please enclose that with your request.

Verification of Medical Education

Requests from program directors, hospital staff offices, etc. for certification of medical education may be emailed, mailed or faxed to the Office of the Registrar along with a signed release from the doctor or former student. As dictated by Federal Law, information regarding academic records can only be released upon written consent of the graduate.  The turn around time for all requests is an average of 7-10 business days.  We do not provide verbal verifications. We do not credential over the phone.

Loan Deferments

Please contact your lender for deferment forms, as they often vary. Please DO NOT COMPLETE ANY SECTION that says, "To be completed by the School Official."  Complete the student section and forward the deferment form and signed release to registrar@med.cornell.edu.

Certified Diploma

This office does not keep copies of student diplomas on file prior to 2012.

If you need a copy of your diploma certified, please provide a scan of the original document as a pdf file. Upload the scan to the Credentialing Request form when you reach the "Upload Form" prompt.

Ordering a Replacement Diploma

Requests for replacement diplomas can be made online through our official diploma vendor, the Michael Sutter Company:https://www.michaelsutter.com/cornell

Using that link, you can order a replacement diploma online.  There is an $85 charge for each diploma replacement. You will be able to choose Standard Delivery, or Express Delivery for an additional fee. Your Diploma will be printed and mailed within 1-2 business days of your order.

Transcripts/Dean's Letter 

The official grade transcript bears a raised Cornell University seal, the date of issue and the signature of the Registrar. The Office of the Registrar is happy to assist the Medical College alumni who are moving through post-graduate training or relocating, and require documentation of their enrollment at Weill Cornell Medical College or Cornell University Medical College.

Transcripts and Dean’s Letters, respectively, are sent directly to the program director, hospital staff office, credentialing agency, licensing board, educational institution, etc. An "official" transcript cannot be sent to the graduate unless it is in a sealed envelope and addressed to the final recipient. You may request an "unofficial" transcript for your records. It will be stamped "unofficial" and will not bear the school seal or signature of the Registrar.  Copies of Dean’s Letters are never sent to graduates.  If your request requires more than one transcript, please upload a typed list of addresses to your Credentialing Request Form.

Requests are processed within an average of 7-10 business days, from the date of receipt. Express mail delivery is available at an additional charge which can be paid through Nelnet Campus Commerce. Contact the Registrar's Office if you need assistance setting up your Nelnet account.

Due to the confidential nature of this information, we do not "Fax" Transcripts or Dean’s Letters.

Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, we cannot respond to a transcript request without your legal signature.  Faxed signatures are permitted under law. The U.S. Department of Education has not yet ruled on the recently enacted electronic signature legislation. Until such time as we are advised how this impacts FERPA legislation, we are unable to honor transcript requests by e-mail, unless the request form has a live signature and has been scanned and emailed.

Weill Cornell Medical College reserves the right to withhold Transcripts, Dean’s Letters, grades, and diplomas from students who have unsatisfied financial obligations to the College.
