Financial Aid Handbook for MD Students
- Eligible students seeking a medical degree can fund their cost via need-based institutional funds through demonstrated financial need and/or via federal funds- primarily student loans.
- Financial aid is awarded on an annual basis and students are required to complete the financial aid application process every year.
- Students must also meet Weill Cornell Medicine Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Standards.
Application
To determine annual financial need, students are required to complete the following:
- free application for federal student aid-FAFSA for federal funding
- college scholarship services-CSS Profile (parental information required)

Application Deadlines
New incoming medical students priority application deadline is March 15, 2025.
Returning medical students priority application deadline is May 1, 2025.
Financial Aid Offer Letters
The Office of Financial Aid will only send offer letters to accepted students. First round acceptance decisions are sent by the Office of Admissions on or before March 15, 2025. Financial aid offer letters are emailed to new students on a rolling basis after submission of all financial aid applications beginning in April. Continuing students offer letters are emailed on a rolling basis after submission of all financial aid applications beginning in June. Student can review, accept, adjust, or decline Financial Aid Award Offer via LEARN→ NetPartner (student financial aid portal).
Waitlisted candidates are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA and CSS Profile in advance to expedite the process once admitted. Although we encourage you to fill out the FAFSA and CSS Profile electronic applications, we ask that you not submit any additional forms until you are admitted, and those documents are requested by the Office of Financial Aid.
Request for Waiver of Parental Information
To be considered for need-based institutional financial aid, a student must submit financial information from both biological or adoptive parents. However, the Office of Financial Aid recognizes that extenuating circumstances in some cases may make it impossible to obtain information from both parents.
Students may request a waiver of the parental information requirement by emailing Office of Financial Aid.
Need-based fund applicants
Step 1: SSN or Tax ID Requirement
Log into LEARN→Financial Aid Billing→New Student Onboarding Form: complete and submit U.S. Social Security Number or Tax ID Number Information form.
Step 2: FAFSA Application
Complete the FAFSA application. Include Weill Cornell Medicine school code is G04762
Step 3: CSS Profile Application
Complete the CSS Profile application. Include Weill Cornell Medicine school code is 2279. List student, spouse (if applicable), and both parents’ information and income.
Step 4: LEARN→NetPartner (Student Financial Aid Portal)
Upload required documents for student, spouse, and both parents.
- Signed Federal 1040 tax form with all schedules (state forms not required)
- W-2 Forms
- Business owners must include applicable forms: Schedule C, E, forms K-1, 1120-S, 1065, 4562, etc.
Step 5: Additional required documents
- Sibling Enrollment Verification Form- only provide if requested by Office of Financial Aid
- Student BIO Survey- Office of Financial will provide link for completion
- Monthly Living Expense Form- only provide if requested by Office of Financial Aid
- Parent Abroad Form-for parents residing outside of the U.S. & do not file a US tax return
*The Office of Financial Aid will notify students of any additional processing requirements prior to the start of the academic year.

Federal Loan fund applicants
Step 1: SSN or Tax ID Requirement
If not previously completed, log into LEARN→Financial Aid Billing→New Student Onboarding Form: complete and submit U.S. Social Security Number or Tax ID Number Information form.
Step 2: FAFSA Application
Complete the FAFSA application. Include Weill Cornell Medicine school code is G04762
Step 3: LEARN→NetPartner (Student Financial Aid Portal)
- Review your financial requirements if any (under Menu→ Documents)
- Request Federal Unsubsidized Loan (under Menu→ Applications, then Submit Loan Request)
- You will received Federal Loan Offer Pending email (allow 2-3 business days after request)
- Review, accept, or decline your Financial Aid Award Offers (under Menu→ Accept Awards, submit decision)
Step 4: Graduate PLUS Loan Application
If you need additional loan funding (after exhausting Unsubsidized Loan), and if you are interested in the Graduate PLUS Loan, complete the credit-check application online.
Electronic application are received within 24 to 48 hours after submission. Financial aid office will update your account with the loan approval.
