Textbook Fee

Textbook Fee for Executive MBA/MS in Healthcare Policy and Research (EMBA/MS) Students:

The EMBA/MS Program charges their students for textbooks and other materials used. This charge is separated from the tuition charge listed on the student account each term.  The U.S. Department of Education recently issued guidance which requires Title IV eligible programs that bundle the cost of textbooks/course materials into the all-inclusive tuition amount to offer students the ability to acquire publicly available textbooks and course materials on their own rather than have them provided by the program.

In order to comply with the regulation, the program is providing students the option to “opt out” of the textbook fee and obtain the publicly available materials on their own. Other materials not publicly available will continue to be included in the all-inclusive tuition amount and will be provided by the program. Each student will need to decide which option works for them. Please know that the option selected by the student in the first term, will determine the option used for the duration of the program.

If you decide to opt out:
  • The student will be responsible for obtaining the required textbook(s)/materials for each course. Details regarding the required materials will be provided to students by the program administration in advance of the start date for each term.
  • Opting out will reduce the Textbook Fee assessed each term on the student’s bill
  • Please note all students are charged the textbook fee for their first term.  To opt out, the MSMBA Textbook Fee Waiver must be submitted through LEARN by the first term start date.
If  you decide to opt out, you should be aware of the following:
  • The student is responsible for obtaining the correct version or edition of the textbook according to the deadline established by the professor.  It will be the student’s responsibility to use the textbook per the course syllabus and be prepared for class sessions, quizzes, exams, and all other course deliverables.
  • The student will not be able to take advantage of any price discounts that Cornell University may have access to.
  • The cost for textbooks may be higher than the textbook fee in any given term.
  • The student is doing so for the duration of their program and will not be permitted to opt in at a later date.
